Managing pumps safely and efficiently is essential for dewatering, water transfer and site operations across Australia’s resources and civil construction sectors. For your RTO, this unit creates a practical training opportunity that supports entry-level and upskilling pathways for operators working around mobile and fixed pumping systems.

  • Industry relevance: Skills apply to mine sites, quarries, construction projects and other workplaces where pumps control water levels, drainage and process flows.
  • Training pathway: The unit supports broader resources, mining and civil construction programs for learners pursuing plant operation and site services roles.
  • Practical learner outcomes: Learners develop the capability to prepare, operate, monitor and shut down pumping equipment while responding to changing workplace conditions.
  • Scope growth opportunity: It is a logical addition for RTOs delivering related machinery, earthmoving, site operations or resource sector training.

Built Around Real Workplace Contexts

The Standards for RTOs require training and assessment to reflect genuine workplace conditions, including the equipment, procedures, hazards and industry expectations learners will encounter on the job. Delivery of RIIPGP201D Conduct pump operations should therefore provide opportunities for authentic workplace practice rather than relying only on theoretical discussion.

Our RIIPGP201D training materials help trainers connect learning with genuine pump operations, including pre-start inspections, equipment setup, safe operation, monitoring flow and pressure, responding to faults, shutdown procedures, maintenance checks and workplace reporting. Activities can be adapted to reflect the pumps, work instructions, environmental controls and documentation used by each learner cohort.

Civil Construction and Dewatering

On civil construction sites, workers may operate pumps to remove water from excavations, trenches, pits and other work areas while maintaining safe access and stable ground conditions.

The training resources help trainers contextualise learning and assessment around site inspections, hose and suction-line setup, pump priming, exclusion zones, water discharge controls, operating checks and reporting changing ground or weather conditions.

Mining and Quarrying Operations

Mining and quarrying workplaces use pumps to manage water in sumps, benches, pits and processing areas, often in environments with changing conditions, mobile equipment and strict operational controls.

Trainers can use the resources to develop realistic activities involving pre-start checks, pump and pipework inspection, monitoring levels and flow, communication with supervisors and other operators, responding to blockages or failures, and completing operational records.

Agricultural and Water Management Worksites

Agricultural enterprises and water management sites may require workers to operate pumps for irrigation, drainage, stock water, transfer systems and temporary water control.

The materials support contextualised delivery through tasks such as identifying water requirements, checking equipment and connections, operating pumps within manufacturer and workplace instructions, managing environmental impacts, recording performance and completing safe shutdown and maintenance activities.

Any Delivery Mode

The editable RIIPGP201D learning materials support classroom delivery, workplace delivery, blended learning and online delivery. Trainers can contextualise learning activities, examples and assessments for their learner cohort, available equipment, workplace procedures and local operating conditions, while maintaining a clear connection to practical pump operations and industry expectations.

Hear What RTOs Say About Our Awesome RTO Training Materials

Just sharing my experience with these resources. The resources that we have purchased from RTO Learning Materials were expectional during audit and mainly when these were implemented with trainers and students. At start it was a bit hard for our trainer's to fully absorb these resources as they are very detailed as compared to the old ones that we have been using but once trainers were able to complete their learning it was a piece of cake to collect and collate evidence from students. Furthermore, during our pre-validation meetings we have also observed that the learning component is very well covered thereby providing enough information for our trainers to keep students engaged at all times. I would also like to highlight a staff member from sales team 'Mr. Amar Shah' who has been exceptional in his service and goes beyond his call of duty. Thank you Amar and RTO Learning Materials for all your support. Regards, Amit Thakur
