Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) in Australia will have until 9 December 2024 to transition to the new Training and Education (TAE) Training Package Version 5.0 after updates were published by training.gov.au on 8 December 2022.
The Australian Industry Skills Committee approved the new TAE update on 8 November 2022, while the Skills Ministers endorsed the latest TAE Training Package on 18 November 2022.
TAE Training Package Version 5.0, developed by PwC’s Skills for Australia, superseded TAE10 – Training and Education Version 3.4, released on 6 April 2016. The TAE updates included the changes in the new versions of Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, the Diploma of Vocational Education and Training, and a variety of skill sets.
The latest TAE qualification, TAE40122 – Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, replaced the TAE40116 – Certificate IV in Training and Assessment in the new TAE training package.
Recently released TAE50122 – Diploma of Vocational Education and Training combined the TAE50116 and TAE50216 Diploma qualifications. The new diploma offers specialised pathways as stated in the qualification’s packaging rules. However, the new diploma is not considered equivalent to the previous two diplomas due to the merger.
The Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) also underscored that Trainer and Assessor qualification requirements in Schedule 1 of the Standards for RTOs remain unchanged. “There is currently no requirement for existing trainers and assessors to attain the new TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment,” ASQA said in its 13 January website announcement.
ASQA granted an extended transition period for all registered RTOs for the following qualifications:
New Code and Title | Superseded Code and Title | Equivalency |
TAE40122 – Certificate IV in Training and Assessment | TAE40116 – Certificate IV in Training and Assessment | Equivalent |
TAE50122 – Diploma of Vocational Education and Training | TAE50116 – Diploma of Vocational Education and Training | Non-equivalent |
TAE50216 – Diploma of Training Design and Development | TAE50216 – Diploma of Training Design and Development | Equivalent |
All these TAE updates are available in the RTO Learning Materials shop.
